KLC meets Vandalkids

Vandalkids is a new fun, ethical and sustainable streetwear brand born in London, who wants to revolutionise children’s wear.

Our mission?

Facilitate kid’s creativity and self-expression minus the stress for parents and impact on the planet.

What do we do?

  • We make practical, comfortable, and inspiring gears for children aged 3 to 10 years old to proudly wear without worry and no fuss, every day, over and over.
  • We encourage creativity and reuse not just through our clothing line but also through sharing inspiring ideas and useful tips.

We initially built our Instagram account around creative reuse for kids: follow us for fun and inspiring contents that go beyond clothing: https://www.instagram.com/vandalkids_london

Why did I create Vandalkids? By Founder Kat Vandal

I value creativity as one of the best tool kids can have for success and happiness and therefore, I let my son explore, experiment, create, be messy quite a lot. But I was tired of constantly washing and throwing away his tracksuits (the only clothes he accepts to wear for comfort) and as I became more and more aware of the impact of fashion on the planet (doing the maths in my head when counting how many clothes I have sent to landfill for one child only. Then multiply by millions), I decided something needed to change.

Moreover, I see fashion as a form of art and self-expression. I think it is a shame to wear dirty, old, damaged or uncomfortably mess-proof clothes when you want to do fun and creative activities just because you might get messy. And I find it even more a shame to keep designer ‘s clothes for the safe and boring occasions resulting in them being worn only a few times before kids outgrow them.

Therefore, I made it my mission to craft clothes that could be worn more:

  • Not just occasionally but everyday.
  • Not for a few months only but beyond.

How?

By combining comfortable fabrics and fit with a thin water-repellent and friction- resistant shell where clothes stain and rub the most (chest, knees and back of the legs), to reduce number of machine wash and slow down degradation.

Because I believe that wearing clothes for longer is kinder to the planet and easier on parents.

Because I believe that every kid is born creative and their clothes should be inspiring and enablers rather than a source of restriction or concern.

What inspired our first collection?

The first collection is inspired by 80’s street art.

A time when we bought less clothes and would take care of them.

A time when kids used their imagination more with less screens and less sophisticated toys entertaining them constantly.

A time when art was democratized, leaving the exclusive galleries and privileged houses and took downs the streets for everyone to experience.

Our two prints (Street Maze and Cheeky Graffiti) are gender neutral and have been loved by boys and girls, as much as by parents as well.

A little bonus when you buy Vabdalkids

With every clothes you get a little surprise: our hang tags can be upcycled into necklaces. This is to encourage kids to be creative and experience the concept of upcycling, as well as giving back.

Give back to the person who gifted their clothes or simply enjoy the process of creating something new and unique with something already existing.

We will share a few tutorial for mother’s day on Instagram and our website – https://www.vandalkidswear.com

About the founder

I’m Kat, I’m French, but living in London for the last 14 years.

I’m the mother of a 6-year-old boy.
I am passionate about anything creative and colourful but I also have a very logical brain.
My brand is merging my left and right brand to create no compromise clothes.

I worked for 14 years for big corporate company and decided to work full time on my dream for the last year.

My son is helping me a lot and loves to be involved in the process. He’s become very knowledgeable about design, makes great feedback about comfort and good resistant testing.

This is us. Although the phones should really be inverted 😉
